If you have never seen or used the spring eye format, you should check these out. Once threaded they allow for a flatter profile of the suture in the eye of the needle resulting in less suture bulk and drag as you pull through the tissue. This means easier passage and less trauma to the tissue.
The double eye is used to thread suture more easily. This also helps to the lock the suture into the eye.
Ordinary eye and spring eye cost the same for similar needles.
